Living the Dream

As long as Steve Whitaker can remember, he dreamed of farming and ranching on the High Plains of Texas. Today, Whitaker Farms and Flying 5 Herefords are the fulfillment of that dream.

 

Steve and LaNell were married in 1986 and raised their family—sons Whit and Will, and daughter Mikala—right here on the family farm. From the very beginning, they instilled values that continue to guide everything we do: putting God first, family second, and all else after that.

 

Steve earned his degree in Mechanized Agriculture from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, where he met LaNell. LaNell is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in Agricultural Economics and later received her Texas Teaching Certificate from West Texas A&M University. Together, they continued their education and are both licensed Realtors.

 

In 2005, we entered the purebred Hereford business. While we initially focused on raising show steers, our program has evolved to emphasize producing high-quality, functional, and prolific breeding stock. With each breeding season, we strive to improve our genetics and offer cattle that are sound, productive, and built to perform.

 

Today, our family has grown to include two daughters-in-law and four grandchildren, making this truly a multi-generation ranch. We are proud of the genetics we offer and the legacy we are building for future generations.
